7 March 2007 INTERNATIONAL COMPANY TO MOVE TO TECHNOLOGY CENTRE
Shrewsbury Environmental Technology Centre, now under construction at Coton Hill, has announced its first major letting following the launch of the new website www.pump-house.com. The name ‘The Pump House’ reflects the origins of the site as a Waterworks and Pump House. Following this tradition it is appropriate that the first major company is an international water management consultancy.
Water Management Consultants (WMC) is an international environmental consultancy company which was founded by a small group of people in 1989, with its first office in Shrewsbury. WMC has since grown into a worldwide operation, employing over 150 people, which has completed projects in over 45 countries. In addition to Shrewsbury, there are now 8 other offices around the world, in the USA, Canada, Chile, Peru and Australia.
WMC specialises in the development, management and environmental protection of water resources, and provides technical services in a wide range of disciplines, including: hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental science, water resources planning, hydroecology, water engineering, geochemistry, numerical modelling, GIS and data management. Clients include international donors, governments, non-governmental organisations, environmental regulators, water utilities, and international mining companies.
Richard Boak, UK Operations Manager for WMC, says, "We wholeheartedly support the aims of this scheme, and are very pleased to be one of the first tenants to sign up. Most of our staff walk or cycle to work, and visitors usually arrive by public transport, so the location is perfect. Our main clients in the UK include the Environment Agency and the Countryside Council for Wales, so being based in the Shrewsbury Environmental Technology Centre will be very good publicity for us."
The Pump House is a public-private joint venture showcasing high quality low energy sustainable design and stimulating the wider environmental economy. In letting space priority is being given to environmental companies.
